Née à Jonquière (Québec), Canada. Double nationalité : canadienne et française. Depuis 1976, vit et travaille à Montréal et à Paris. Après des études en Arts plastiques au CEGEP de Jonquière (1969-1971) et en Arts visuels à l’Université Laval (1972-1975), c’est à l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (1976-1977 et 1981-1982) qu’elle complètera sa formation. Pendant ces 25 années de travail continu, plusieurs perspectives ont marqué sa production :

• Hyperréalisme ;
• Recherches sur l’histoire de l’art avec pour thèmes majeurs notamment, l’atelier, le métier, le faire et la technique et, dans un autre registre, les rapports entre modernité et postmodernité ainsi qu’avant-garde et trans-avant-garde ;
• Recherches sur les métamorphoses de la représentation avec un travail sur l’hybridation des rapports entre abstraction et figuration ;
• Travail sur les mythologies américaines autour des paysages urbains de Los Angeles et une recherche autobiographique sur les images mentales de l’américanité ;
• Recherches sur le thème de la nature. Travail mélangeant dans les premières années dessin, peinture, gravure et photographie, l’ouverture interdisciplinaire s’est progressivement imposée pour s’affirmer depuis maintenant plusieurs années, avec entre autres la sculpture, les installations, la vidéo et l’informatique.

Plus d’une vingtaine d’expositions individuelles et une trentaine d’expositions collectives, de nombreuses commandes et une présence dans de multiples collections institutionnelles et privées en Belgique, au Canada, en France, en Grande-Bretagne, en Italie et aux Etats-Unis.

Born in Jonquière (Québec) Canada. Double nationality: Canadian and French. Since 1976, lives and works in Montréal and Paris. After studying the visual arts at the CEGEP of Jonquière (1969-1971) and at Université Laval (1972-1975), Christiane Chabot completed her artistic training at the Paris Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (1976-1977 and 1981-1982). Over an unbroken span of some 25 years, her work has led her along many paths:

• Hyperrealism
• Research in history of art, with specific emphasis on the themes of the artist’s studio, the artist’s craft, activity and techniques, and on another level, the relationship between modernity and post-modernity, as well as the avant-garde and trans-avant-garde;
• Research into the metamorphosis of the representation with on the hybridization of the relationships between abstraction and figuration;
• Work on American mythologies in respect of the urban landscapes of Los Angeles and autobiographical research into mental images of her American culture;
• Reasearch on the theme of nature.
• The mix of work during the early years, drawing, painting, etching and photography, led towards the opening up of an interdisciplinary perspective that has progressively become firmly established in recent years, with the inclusion of such spheres as sculpture, installations, video and computer graphics.

Christiane Chabot has had over twenty solo exhibitions, and some thirty other exhibitions have included her work. In addition to numerous commissions, her work can be found in many public and private collections in Belgium, Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy and the United States.
